Mountain lions

Mountain lions inhabit most of California and the large open space areas of Santa Clara County parks provide an abundance of food and shelter. Mountain lions, also known as pumas or cougars, are valuable predators that keep our ecosystem balanced by limiting prey populations. Mountain lions are obligate carnivores, meaning that they only eat meat. In California they eat mostly deer, but their prey also includes raccoons, rabbits, rodents, and other wildlife species.
