Penitencia Creek

Learn about our park

Penitencia Creek County Park is a 163-acre section of a parkway project owned and operated by several agencies. This parkway begins at the City of San José's 720-acre Alum Rock Park, which offers activities such as hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, a nature center, and picnic areas for families and groups.

The trail intermittently connects to Alum Rock Park, with some sections still undeveloped. Between Alum Rock Park and Noble Avenue, trail users need to travel along the road shoulder. The same situation applies between Noble Avenue and White Road/Piedmont Road, although sidewalks and bike paths fill in some gaps.

From White/Piedmont Roads to the Jackson/Mabury area, the trail is mostly continuous, except for the on-street crossings at Capitol Avenue and Jackson Avenue. The paved trail is suitable for hikers, bicyclists, and skaters/rollerbladers. The creek flows westward through the residential neighborhoods of Berryessa and Alum Rock until it joins Coyote Creek near Berryessa Road. The trail between Jackson/Mabury and Coyote Creek is primarily undeveloped.

In compliance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ('ADA'), the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its programs, services, or activities. The Department will make reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disability have an equal opportunity to enjoy our programs, services, facilities, and activities. If you need assistance with an ADA request, please contact our ADA Coordinator at [email protected].
