Using Avenza Maps

Find your location on park maps using Avenza Maps.

Why do we recommend using Avenza Maps?

  1. You can keep official Santa Clara County Parks maps on your mobile device and get notified when maps are updated.
  2. You will be able to see your GPS location on the maps, even if you're offline without cell service, so you can navigate around parks more easily. 
  3. Neighboring agencies including Mid-Peninsula Open Space District, Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, and East Bay Regional Parks also post their maps on Avenza.
  4. The app and our maps are free to download and work with Apple and Android devices. 
  5. It's easy to use and includes tools to measure distance, mark points, and keep track of where you've walked.

To download all County Parks guide maps from the Avenza Store, scan the QR code below. If you don't already have Avenza, the link will prompt you to install the app first. See the instructions below for more on how to download the app and save maps.

How to set up Avenza Maps

Step 1

Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play to install Avenza Maps. If prompted, you can create an account (required for Android) or click "Skip."

Step 2 

Click "Store" on the app's bottom toolbar to find maps for download. When prompted, allow GPS location use so you can see where you are in the app's maps.

Step 3

In the Store page, click on the search bar and enter in a park name to find a single map or "Santa Clara County Parks guide map" to find the bundle with all County Parks maps. We recommend searching by keywords.  If you are in a park area with internet reception, you can also scan the QR code at a map board to download the park map.

Step 4

Our guide maps will have Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation listed as the author and are free to download. Tap the "Free" button to start the download. It will say "Open Map" when it's ready.

Step 5

If you're in a park and open its map in Avenza, you will now be able to see your location on the map—indicated by the blue dot—even if you're not connected to internet or cell service.
